In 2004, Yan Lei participated to an art project for CRAC, Regional Center for Contemporary Art in Nice, France. The project included photography, painting, calligraphy and other art forms. One of the photographic works recorded the only female gatekeeper of the Arts Center in her working place’s setting. In this space, the presence of artists coming and going, and the woman’s more and more evident aging came to testimony the Arts Center changes during the years. On the photography of artist left these words "I chose this place, now, to know where my heart will always be", he left the French translation of his words on the walls of the Art Center’s exhibition space, and he left its Latin translation on drawings of French architecture. The time, the coming and going of different artists, the woman's personal record of exhibitions and artistic creations, becomes here a complete portray as of single cold eyed visitors, of her feelings and thoughts, but it also carries art from the past and through its experience.
